A crunchy satisfying snack! Most chips are full of ingredients that just don't need to be there! Sweet potatoes are full of fibre, beta-carotene (vitamin A), vitamin C, potassium and many other vitamins and minerals essential for optimal health. Not only are they nutritious but they are sweet and filling. Did you know it is so simple to make your own sweet potato chips?! Cut down on the oil, sugar and salt when you make them yourself and the best part is that you can make them whatever flavour you'd like! Salt and vinegar, maple and cinnamon, coconut oil and salt, nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavour, etc!
How to make:
Get some sweet potatoes or yams! Did you know that yams and sweet potatoes are not the same thing!? They are both tubular vegetables however they are not related. Yams are drier and starchier than sweet potatoes! They both make great chips though! Slice them with a mandolin into thin pieces. You can use a knife but it would be a little tricky.
How beautiful are those colours! Heat your oven to 375 degrees. For straight up salty chips you are going to want to coat your slices with an oil of some kind. You can use coconut, walnut, pumpkin seed, whatever you'd like.
For flavored chips this is where you can play around you can soak them in vinegar, your can cover them in some maple syrup, you do you at this point. Once you've flavoured your slices, line them on a pan.
Place them in the oven and keep an eye on them. I would set a timer for 10 minutes at a time. Check them after 10 mins once they start to curl a bit, flip them over. Depending on the coating they can take anywhere from 20-30 mins. Keep watching them. You are looking for a nice curled, crunchy chip. Once you remove from the heat, salt your chips with sea salt of Himalayan. You want to do it at this point so the salt stick. Set aside to cool for 5 mins. Next step enjoy them! :) You just made a super awesome snack!!
